Al Taif lies in the Hejaz mountains of western Saudi Arabia, known for its scenery, its pleasant climate and its fragrant roses. It has long been the summer retreat of the Saudi royal family.
The city carries significant Islamic heritage, with many mosques including the grand Al Rajhi Mosque, while the Al Taif Museum and Arts Center hold its history. Damask roses are central to its identity and its economy: the oil pressed from them goes into perfumes, rosewater, cosmetics and food.
