A Jewel in the Heart of Saudi Arabia
Diriyah stands on the edge of Riyadh and was the capital of the first Saudi state. Once a thriving centre of trade and commerce, it was destroyed in the 1800s and has since been restored.
Founded in the 15th century by Mani ibn Rabi’a Al-Muraydi, Diriyah grew into a hub of commerce and Islamic learning. After the Ottoman destruction it lay abandoned for years before its restoration. It holds UNESCO World Heritage status today.
